Who We Are

The Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP) was initiated by a group of Brigidine Sisters whose main work is in Catholic Schools and Parishes across Victoria. The group is currently under the auspices of The Brigidine Justice Community and is managed by the BASP Committee. Both of these are made up of Brigidine Sisters and dedicated colleagues and friends of the Project.

The Project aims to:

  • provide hospitality and practical support for asylum seekers
  • actively network with like-minded individuals and groups who are working for justice for asylum seekers
  • promote advocacy for the rights of asylum seekers

The Project has many supporters. This site aims to raise awareness of what we do, what we've learned and what you can do to help. As well, we want to tell the stories of some of the many asylum seekers we have had contact with since the Project began in 2001.
